Your Participation Matters: The Employment Equity Survey

Understanding who is – and who isn’t – represented in our employee community is a vital step in building a more diverse and inclusive workforce at U of T. To support this work, the University is reminding all faculty, librarians, and staff to complete the Employment Equity Survey

Earlier in 2023, a redesigned Employment Equity Survey was launched to better reflect the identities of our community. The survey offers a snapshot of the demographic composition of our tri-campus faculty, librarians, and staff, enabling us to measure our progress towards more equitable, diverse, and inclusive working and learning environments. This voluntary and confidential questionnaire is open to appointed and non-appointed employees and is easily accessible via the Employee Self-Service (ESS) platform.

Why Your Input is Valuable

Your participation in this survey provides meaningful data to better assist our community to identify and address gaps in representation.  Equity data provides insight to develop new initiatives and improve existing programs that foster a culture of belonging among faculty, librarians, staff, and students. Even choosing to formally decline the survey questions offers us vital feedback. And remember, you’re always free to change your responses.

Key highlights and an institutional overview of last year’s employment equity data are included for the first time in our 2022 EDI Report. You can also learn more about the ways in which our community self-identified by exploring the Employment Equity Data Dashboard, which showcases employment equity survey data from 2017 to 2022.  Equity data from the staff applicant tracking system is also included on the Dashboard, allowing users to explore the changes in representation and overall data trends across our communities.
