Every year at this time, for many years, I have always looked forward to making my annual contribution to the United Way campaign because of its support for those in our communities who are less fortunate. I know that similar commitments abound within our institution. In fact, when I began my term as vice-president and principal of U of T Scarborough (UTSC) this year, I immediately felt energized by the passion across our campus about making a significant impact in the community. There is a commitment to cultivating citizenship amongst our faculty, staff, students and alumni to advance our society, both locally and globally.
There are wonderful organizations in our city that also work to bring positive impact to our community, like United Way Greater Toronto. Over the past year, the United Way and their partner agencies have helped a number of people who face challenges that significantly impact their livelihoods and their families. In our backyard here at UTSC, these partner agencies play a vital role in supporting and empowering our community through their programming and initiatives.
As the UTSC community and the University of Toronto, as a whole, strive to leverage our urban locations more fully, for the mutual benefit of the institution and the city, your contributions to the United Way campaign enable us to partner with like-minded organizations to empower residents in our neighbourhood and to support them in enhancing their livelihoods. The provision of social support systems and educational resources, such as the Scarborough Women’s Centre and The Hub Mid-Scarborough, aligns with our collective goals to build a more accessible, inclusive and prosperous Toronto region.
That is why I would like to encourage you to join me in this laudable effort by considering donating to this year’s annual U of T Campaign.
