Why I give: A message from Kelly Hannah-Moffat, Vice-President Human Resources & Equity

Kelly Hannah-Moffat portrait photoThe University of Toronto consistently partners with the United Way’s annual giving campaign to improve the lives of those in our communities. Each year staff, faculty, students, alumni, and our retirees step up and contribute to support the United Ways of Toronto and York Region and Peel Region.

In my work as a faculty member in the Centre for Criminology and Sociolegal Studies, I have focussed on the relationships between gender, diversity, and disadvantage, and know how positive and impactful United Way supported organizations can be.

Through organizations like the Barbara Schlifer Commemorative Clinic and the Elizabeth Fry Society, I have seen how donated funds translate into meaningful and positive help – whether they are used to buy clothes and toiletries for a woman escaping an abusive partner in the middle of the night with nothing, to providing education and life skills. The benefits are real and tangible and provide sustenance and hope.

In thinking of those among us who need support, I hope that you will contribute to this year’s campaign. Our campaign runs until December 31. Please consider donating and helping to make this year’s campaign a success.

If you have any questions, please reach out to the team at unitedway@utoronto.ca.

Thank you.
