The True Blue Award emerged from the most recent Speaking Up: Faculty & Staff Experience Survey. The results showed that feeling valued and recognized in the communities in which they work rated highly among employees.
The True Blue Award complements the recognition programs already in existence at the University of Toronto (U of T) and provides staff and faculty with an opportunity to recognize their colleagues in a more informal way. Award recipients are nominated by their colleagues for embodying U of T’s true-blue spirit.

“Kimberley Tull is a champion for equitable practices within our department and with external relationships. She believes it is important for individuals to feel empowered — to contribute in any way comfortable using one’s personal journey as an asset.
“She has been my manager for two years and she has created endless opportunities for me to strengthen my personal and professional voice. She has provided direct mentorship in community development and meaningful relationship building by always inviting me to participate in external meetings for increased exposure and hands-on experience.
“She has always advocated for inclusion and diversity, being the person to recognize certain persons / voices [that] are not present and finding ways to include / capture their voice.”
