University of Toronto Recognized by Forbes as one of Canada’s Best Employers 2021

The University of Toronto has been identified as one of the top five employers in Canada, according to a ranking by Forbes. In the global media company’s annual list of Canada’s Best Employers, U of T moved up five spots from tenth overall in 2020 to fifth in 2021.

The award is presented by Forbes and Statista Inc., a prominent statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The awards list was announced on January 26th, 2021 and can currently be viewed on the Forbes website.

Forbes and Statista selected the Canada’s Best Employers 2021 through an independent survey applied to a vast sample of more than 8,000 Canadian employees working for companies with more than 500 employees in Canada. The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees that were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family.

U of T attracts, retains and engages its workforce through a number of intentionally inclusive, diverse and equitable initiatives that support employees over various life and career stages. The University offers eligible employees a comprehensive, competitive suite of benefits. For example, equitable compensation, generous parental leave and childcare benefits, tuition waivers, phased retirement and a defined benefit pension plan are available for appointed faculty, librarians and staff. The True Blue Recognition Platform provides an online space to house many of the annual awards that make up U of T’s formal recognition strategy, and offers peer-to-peer functionality so that colleagues can informally recognize each other for small victories and day-to-day accomplishments.

The University is delighted to be recognized on the Forbes list of Canada’s Best Employers 2021.
