At the University of Toronto, recognition is a part of the culture. Every year, thousands of eCards are sent through the True Blue Recognition Platform. Now, with new features, showing appreciation at U of T is easier and more meaningful than ever.
“The platform really is the embodiment of U of T’s culture of appreciation across the tri-campus,” says Tom Spence, Engagement & Events Consultant. “From True Blue eCards that acknowledge small acts of kindness that brighten someone’s day, to formal award nominations for multiyear projects that transcend divisional lines, True Blue celebrates them all.”
The updates to the platform include new eCard graphics, redesigned U of T-branded milestone cards, and a streamlined activity feed that makes it easier to see what’s happening across the platform. Employees also have a new option to donate their points to the United Way, adding a way to give back to the community. An eCard Tutorial and a Point Redemption Guide help users navigate the system more easily, whether sending a message to a colleague or redeeming points for rewards.
“I think the new ‘Signatures’ feature is exciting,” Tom notes. “When you’re sending an eCard to a colleague, you can search for and invite other U of T employees to add their message to yours. So now, if you’re acknowledging someone’s birthday, congratulating them on finishing a project, or sending them a ‘get well soon’ message, colleagues and team members can join in.”
The eCards on the platform reflect U of T’s Institutional Competencies, such as Collaboration, Leadership, and Innovation & Excellence, connecting everyday recognition to broader institutional values.
True Blue also continues to grow its collection of eCards for religious and cultural observances. “If there’s something you’d like to see represented, reach out,” says Tom. “We’re always happy to expand the offering.”
In addition to individual acknowledgements, True Blue hosts dozens of formal award programs across Faculties and divisions, with new programs added annually. “We receive hundreds of nominations for teams and individuals every year,” says Tom. “The platform has become a helpful tool for submitting and managing award nominations.”
Looking ahead, Tom hopes the enhancements will make recognition easier without adding to inbox overload. He says, “These features will enable U of T employees to show their appreciation more frequently.”
