The University of Toronto’s Division of HR & Equity is introducing a new Talent Management unit to support all aspects of talent acquisition, talent management and succession planning for administrative staff – the first unit of its kind at the University.
November 22, 2018
The new unit will subsume UTemp (the University of Toronto’s temporary staffing service) and Integrated Recruitment from the HR & Equity Strategic Initiatives portfolio, and will advance these offerings to take the lead in providing strategic sourcing services, recruitment training and resources to the University.
“Over the past year, we in HR & Equity have heard from our clients and key stakeholders, both through informal feedback and through online surveys, about the critical need for an institutional approach to talent management,” says Erin Jackson, Chief Human Resources Officer, Division of HR & Equity. “This unit will enhance our existing retention and succession planning framework, and further empower the University by investing in its community and attracting diverse and exceptional talent.”
The introduction of the Talent Management unit is part of HR & Equity’s overall talent management strategy to proactively leverage the University’s excellence for strategic recruitment, provide professional development tools and training, create pipelines for hard-to-fill-positions, and build talent pools of diverse and qualified candidates.
“Our goal is to incorporate best practices in the development and implementation of consistent and inclusive approaches to talent management across all three campuses,” says Jackson. “This institutional work will support divisional initiatives and will contribute towards an exceptional employee experience for administrative staff.”
The unit will operate under the leadership of a newly created Director, Talent Management position. The Director will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing an institutional talent acquisition, onboarding (including orientation) and succession planning strategy.
“Recognizing and enhancing the employee experience is an important part of what we do,” says Jackson. “I look forward to expanding our HR & Equity team and working together with the broader University community to enrich staff leadership, meet the needs of employees and leverage internal talent and networks.”
The job posting for the Director, Talent Management is currently available on the University of Toronto Careers website. The deadline to apply is December 5, 2018. For more information about the Talent Management Unit, email hrandequity@utoronto.ca.
