U of T team undertakes second annual ‘Day of Community’

On November 9th, the University of Toronto’s Division of Human Resources & Equity held its second annual ‘Day of Community’.

Inspired by the U of T United Way Campaign, staff from across the Division, as well as colleagues from divisional human resources offices, gathered over the lunch hour to decorate and fill gift bags for a worthy cause. Following last year’s successful donation of bags of essential items for residents of the local Ronald McDonald House, this year the United Way paired the group with Dixon Hall Neighborhood Services. The project was to assist the organization’s ‘New Settlement’ program, which is specifically designed to assist refugees and new immigrants with low or no income.

Last year, Dixon Hall helped 480 newcomers adjust to life in Toronto, redefine their home, and ensuring their introduction to vital community resources and support.

Volunteers decorating holiday gift bags

Working to a soundtrack of holiday tunes, the HR team decorated and filled 150 bags (generously donated by U of T Bookstore) with school supplies and snacks for kids.

The bags will be delivered to Dixon Hall Neighbourhood Services, and into the hands of newcomers, before the holiday season.

The 2017 U of T United Way Campaign runs until December 31. For information and to learn how to donate, please visit the campaign webpage.
