As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I am reminded of the many people in our communities who face daily struggles for adequate food, shelter, employment, and other basic needs. I am also reminded of, and thankful for, the spirit of caring and engagement that marks the U of T community.

I’m writing today as the Volunteer Cabinet Chair for the Education sector for the United Way Campaign of Greater Toronto and York Region, to which I’m pleased to return for a second term. Later this month you will be invited to contribute to the annual U of T United Way Campaign. I hope that you will consider making a donation, which you can direct to very worthy causes near where you work or live. It’s a wonderful way to make a real difference in the neighbourhoods and the city around us.

I am proud of U of T’s contributions to the United Way over the years. Last year our campaign raised over $600,000 and I’m hopeful that we can match and even surpass that, to play our part in building a stronger and more inclusive Toronto region for all.
