Jane Seto, Executive Assistant,
Arts & Science Students’ Union
Kelly and Jane have been with the University of Toronto (U of T) since 1990.
What do you do off the clock?
Separately, we each have varied interests, but together we make cards.
Jane: I am an avid golfer and enjoy reading, travelling and home renovations. But I really enjoy card-making and other craft and do-it-yourself projects.
Kelly: I love to read fiction and have an enduring love of home décor magazines. I enjoy cooking (not baking; too many rules!) and exploring new places to eat. Toronto is such a great place to live for those with an adventurous palate.
How, and when, did you first become interested in card-making?
Kelly: About four or five years ago, a former U of T employee came to Jane’s house to demonstrate some products from a company she was involved with called Stampin’ Up. Jane gathered up a group of friends and family and we were all introduced to the world of rubber stamp inking and card-making.
Many of us were hooked. We bought our first supplies that day and have been enjoying the craft ever since!
Do you show or sell your work?
We do occasionally sell the cards we make. We have a couple of customers at U of T who place small orders. But primarily, we make them for our own use — to give to friends and family on holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. We do have these pesky full-time jobs that keep us busy!
What (or who) inspires or influences your work?
We love card-making blogs and, for inspiration on all sorts of things, we love browsing through Pinterest. We also refer to Splitcoaststampers, a website devoted to the stamping community.
