Re: Minimum wage changes effective January 1, 2018

There are a number of changes impacting non-appointed payments effective January 1, 2018, resulting from the new Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act (which received Royal Assent on November 27, 2017). While the University is still working through an impact assessment of the new Act in its entirety, the following item(s) should be processed for January pay close:

  • Effective January 1, 2018 the minimum rate for non-union casual workers will increase to $15.00 / hour
  • Effective January 1, 2018, the minimum rate for work-study students will increase to $14.00 / hour. For more information about the work-study increase, please contact Nina Luciano at

The revised Work-Study Program guidelines and timesheets will be posted online before January 1.

The above increases will be implemented in HRIS and Kronos (if applicable) in January.

Please process hours for non-union casual workers using Attendance when applicable.
