Make November 1 ‘Take Our Grade 9 Kids to Work Day’ a Safe Day

On Wednesday, November 1, Grade 9 students across Canada will participate in the national ‘Take Our Kids to Work Day.’ While the University does not formally participate in this program, we are supportive of this initiative. We are aware that some staff members will bring their Grade 9 children to work on this day.

Employees are reminded to discuss their involvement in this day with managers prior to November 1, to ensure that students participating in the program have an experience that is both educational and safe.

Managers should conduct a safety assessment of relevant work areas when considering requests from staff to bring their children to work.

Both managers and staff should review the Office of Environmental Health & Safety guidelines for job shadowing before bringing a Grade 9 student to the University. The EH&S guidelines provide important information for the safety of children visiting the University for formal job-shadowing events and other occasions.
