Faculty & Staff: Mentors needed for newcomers to Canada

Make a lasting difference in the life of a new immigrant

The University of Toronto (U of T), as a proud participant in the Toronto Region Immigration Employment Council (TRIEC)’s the Mentoring Partnership program, is looking for faculty and staff who can spend 24 hours over a four-month period as a volunteer mentor to help a newcomer:

  • Gain a better understanding of the Canadian workplace
  • Navigate through their job search

Why volunteer?

In 2016, 98% of program mentors involved told us they were satisfied with their mentoring experience and 96% indicated that as a result of mentoring they were better able to motivate, coach and develop people.

Mentors will also have the opportunity to participate in a mentoring and coaching professional development program, including:

  • Workshops, webinars, online modules and networking events
  • Professional development opportunities to gain credits towards your Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) or Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) accreditation
  • Resources to support you, which includes an orientation and a mentoring coach that can be contacted whenever you need assistance

Current mentors with the program do not need to re-register for the program or attend an orientation. Please contact Aman Dhesi at adhesi@triec.ca and indicate your interest. Make sure to also include information on your current position, then your profile will be updated and you will be added to the matching pool in 2017.
