This is to remind all CUPE 3902-Unit 1 members who are eligible for the Top-Up / Health Care Spending Account (HCSA) benefit plan, that the Plan year-end is fast-approaching.
If you have not yet submitted eligible claims, but wish to do so, please submit them by the end of this Plan year (August 31, 2016).
How to Submit a Claim
First, you need to set up two (2) different profiles with Green Shield – one for your coverage as a student, and the other for your CUPE coverage. In doing so, please use:
- Your student / postdoctoral benefit plan ID when submitting to your student plan; and,
- Your CUPE Green Shield Plan ID (i.e. UOT + your employee number) when submitting to your CUPE Plan.
Remember that claims need to be submitted in this order:
- STEP 1: Submit your claim to your student or postdoctoral benefit plan.
- STEP 2: Submit the balance of unpaid portion of the claim to your CUPE 3902-Unit 1 Top-up / HCSA Plan for consideration.

We would like to encourage Plan Members to sign up for Green Shield’s Plan Member Online Services, where you can see your coverage details, submit claims, and locate providers for services. It’s fast and it’s easy to sign up once you know your Plan Member ID. Go to www.greenshield.ca for more details. Note that this feature is currently available for the CUPE plan, but may not be available for your student or postdoctoral plan.
Get Refunds Faster: Sign Up for Direct Deposit
Signing up for Plan Member Online Services is a great time to sign up for direct deposit of your claims reimbursement. Once a submitted claim has been determined eligible, the reimbursement is deposited directly to the bank account you have set up – usually within two (2) days of receiving notice the claim has been adjudicated. No more waiting for a cheque to arrive in the mail!
