December 16, 2014

U of T Family Friendly Award

For the third consecutive year, U of T has been named one of Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers. Some of the reasons cited for U of T’s 2015 award include:

  • Maternity leave top-up payments; Parental leave top-up for new fathers; Parental leave top-up for adoptive parents (Note: All of U of T’s maternity and parental leave top-up benefits apply to same-sex partners);
  • Educational assistance such as the tuition waiver;
  • Scholarships;
  • Onsite daycare; and,
  • The Family Care Office (FCO), which provides guidance, resources, referrals, educational programming and advocacy for the University’s community and their families.

At the University of Toronto, family care is not just about helping employees with young children. The University also offers programs and services for those involved in elder care. “We have a multi-generational workforce. It spans a broad range from ‘millenials’, who are relatively new in their careers, to those who have been with the University for more than 40 years,” says Erin Jackson, Executive Director, Integrated HR Service Delivery. “The University is viewed as an excellent place to work, and a lot of individuals who have the opportunity to work here, tend to want to stay and make U of T home for their career.”

Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers is an annual competition run by Mediacorp Canada Inc. in partnership with the Globe and Mail. U of T was recently named as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2015.
