The University of Toronto community is deeply saddened by the news of the shooting that took the lives of eight persons, including six Asian-American women, in Atlanta, Georgia. The University of Toronto condemns all reprehensible acts of anti-Asian Racism, xenophobia and misogyny. This horrific act cannot be ignored, and our hearts go out to the families of the victims and all members of the Asian community. Violence and discrimination against any racialized group is unacceptable. As a community, we must continue to work towards eliminating all forms of racism and sexism. Human rights, inclusion, and respect are fundamental values at the University of Toronto. The University has zero tolerance for hate, harassment, and discrimination.
Thank you to the students, faculty, librarians, and staff who are already working on these important issues. The Office of the Vice-President, Human Resources & Equity and the Anti-Racism & Cultural Diversity Office will announce important tri-campus initiatives and additional supports in which all members of the University will be invited to take part.
