Re:	Staffing Announcement: Personal Safety, High Risk & Sexual Violence Prevention & Support

The University of Toronto is taking an important step to improve and integrate the services and supports for those affected by sexual violence and to broaden the way we think of safety, filling a key new post to lead this initiative on all three campuses. We are pleased to announce this hire and the bold new direction that it signals for the University, building on the extensive work we have done in recent years and positioning us to take a leadership role in this area.

Executive Director, Personal Safety, High Risk and Sexual Violence Prevention & Support

Dr. Terry McQuaid has accepted the role of Executive Director, Personal Safety, High Risk & Sexual Violence Prevention & Support. Reporting to the Vice-President & Provost and to the Vice-President, Human Resources & Equity, Terry will lead tri-campus personal safety and emergency planning, including responding to cases of possible sexual violence, high-risk matters and community safety, and oversee the development of policies, practices and procedures to ensure the University has effective response and prevention strategies in place.

Terry comes to the University from Seneca College, where she held the role of Director, Counselling and Accessibility Services from 2012 to the present. In this role, Terry was responsible for ensuring the institution was compliant with institutional policies and procedures and applicable legislation while, at the same time, providing counselling services, supports, and appropriate accommodations.

Since obtaining her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology, Terry has excelled in her work as a counsellor, psychotherapist, and psychologist in a variety of high profile appointments and private practice. Terry also has an impressive history of participation on various boards and advisory committees, including the Canadian Association of College, University Student Services, the Ministry of Community and Social Services (Toronto, Ontario), and the Seneca College Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence Committee and has held a variety of contract faculty positions at York University.

Terry obtained her B.A. Honours in Psychology from York University, M.A. in Counselling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology (Toronto), and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology (Chicago).

Director, Office of Safety & High Risk

We are pleased to announce that Laura Bradbury has accepted a one-year secondment starting October 1, 2016 to the role of Director, Office of Safety & High Risk.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Personal Safety, High Risk, & Sexual Violence Prevention & Support, and in close consultation with the Vice-President, Human Resources & Equity, the Vice-Provost, Students, and the Vice-Provost, Faculty & Academic Life, Laura will oversee the management of personal safety and will work as part of a team coordinating the University’s response to, and management of, cases of perceived and identified risk.

Laura is currently the Manager of the Community Safety Office at the University of Toronto, a role she has excelled at since 2008. In her time at the University, Laura has delivered specialized response service for students, staff and faculty experiencing personal safety concerns, and has been a leader in identifying, assessing, and managing high risk cases and threats of violence.

Laura obtained her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Calgary and her M.A. in Criminology from the University of Toronto. She is also a graduate of the Rotman School of Management Police Leadership Program, and is certified in Mediation and Dispute Resolution, Trauma Counselling, Violence Risk Assessment and Workplace Investigations.
