I am very pleased to announce that Jason Lum will be joining the HR & Equity team in the role of Director, Compensation on Monday, March 8.
Jason will be responsible for leading the University’s compensation function including the development of compensation strategy, programs, and processes for administrative and unionized staff.
Jason joins us from Ontario Health (formerly Cancer Care Ontario), where he has held the roles of Director, People and Culture and Group Manager, Total Rewards Programs and HRIs. In these roles, he was responsible for managing and leading enterprise-wide compensation, benefits, payroll, HRIS, employee engagement, and HR risk and compliance programs. Jason has built his career with a focus on compensation analysis, beginning with early roles at Sanofi-Aventis and time spent as a Job Evaluation Specialist at the Bank of Montreal and as a Senior Total Rewards Analyst at Kinross Gold Corporation.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Arts in Labour Relations from McMaster University, and a postgraduate diploma in Human Resources Management from Sheridan College.
I would like to thank Karina Villar and Kristen Taylor for their ongoing engagement and leadership over the past year as we conducted our search for a new Director, Compensation, as well as the broader Compensation team for their ongoing dedication and support as we move through this transition. Moving forward, Karina will continue to lead our compensation function for non-unionized employees as the Manager, Compensation, and Kristen will continue to lead USW compensation as Manager, USW Job Evaluation Services.
Over the past several years, the Compensation team has begun to refresh the service model for Compensation to one that is client focussed and innovative. I am very excited to see this positive transformation continue under Jason’s leadership.
