Performance Assessment 2020: Preparing for Performance Discussions & System Functionality and Process Training

Dear colleagues,

Further to the launch of the 2020 Performance Assessment process, we are following up with new resources for managers and details about training.

The Performance Assessment process is an excellent opportunity for managers and employees to review accomplishments, provide feedback, both positive and constructive, and engage in conversation about career aspirations and supporting employee development. As the University of Toronto continues to enhance its status as an employer of choice, the Centre for Learning, Leadership and Culture (LLC) will be focusing on the employee development cycle over the next few years. This year, the focus is on elevating and encouraging meaningful conversations between managers and employees during the Performance Assessment cycle.

To assist managers with how to prepare for and conduct a performance discussion, the LLC has created five short three to five-minute videos as a resource. The first two videos are available via the SuccessFactors: Learning module, and the last three will be made available shortly, before managers and employees hold their discussions this year. You should have already received an automatic notification on September 15 that these videos have been assigned to you in the Learning module. An accompanying workbook is available to further support managers as they gather information and structure these performance conversations.

Although compensation for unionized staff is covered by the collective agreement, employees can still benefit from regular performance conversations with their manager. For any managers with unionized staff, these videos also provide a relevant approach to these conversations.

We encourage all managers to take a few minutes to view these videos as they prepare for performance conversations with staff.  Conducting an effective performance discussion is an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships with employees and set them up for continued success!

System Functionality and Process Training

Compensation has also developed a comprehensive, virtual training course for managers that provides an overview of the SuccessFactors: Performance and Goals module and the technical steps required to complete the process. • October 7 (10:00am – 11:30am)
  • October 14 (2:00pm – 3:30pm)
