Launch of 2020/2021 Goal Setting Process

Dear colleagues,

The 2020 / 2021 Goal Setting process is now open for Professional & Managerial (PM), Confidential and Research Associate / Sr. Research Associate ( RA/ S RA ) employees. The process for Advancement Professionals (AP) will begin in the coming weeks, with additional information provided shortly for those participants as it relates to their own unique goal setting processes.

Given COVID-19 – related delays, we are beginning the annual Goal Setting process much later than in previous years. Ordinarily, goal setting is a proactive planning step that takes place in the fall, where clear performance expectations and development goals are established between managers and staff.

Over the course of this past year, we have heard from our key stakeholders and clients that there is a need to review institutional processes with an eye to streamlining and reducing the administrative load on our people leaders and employees, many of whom are already over committed due to the demands of the COVID-19 pa ndemic. With this important feedback in mind, while we are launching the goal setting process, participating in the conventional 2020/2021 goal setting process this year is not mandatory for PM, Confidential, and RA / SRA employees.

Those employees in the PM, Confidential and RA/ S RA employee groups who do choose to participate are invited to record their goals and professional development activities in the 2021 Goal Plan of the HRE SuccessFactors system for the July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 review period.

For employees who choose not to participate in goal setting at this time, they will have the opportunity to reflect on and detail their goals in the Performance Assessment form when the 2020/2021 Performance Assessment process is launched in the spring. Recording goals at this time will be necessary, so that managers can evaluate an employee’s performance over the past assessment cycle.
