Impact of Public Service Alliance of Canada Strike on the University

We are writing to update you on the potential impact of the labour action by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) on our community as it relates to foreign nationals planning to come to the University, and community members who may be planning to travel in the near future.

Many services operated by the Government of Canada have been paused or drastically reduced at this time. Faculty members, librarians or staff who may be planning to travel for work or study purposes without valid passports or other travel documents should refer to the Service Canada website for updates as to when such services might resume.

Departments that are in the process of hiring or otherwise inviting foreign nationals (including faculty members, staff, students and visitors) to campus should be aware that many services including processing of Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs) for entry to Canada, as well as Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) have been disrupted. There may be delays in obtaining the authorizations needed to enter Canada.

The University is monitoring possible impacts on incoming and current international students and will share an update as soon as we have more information in the coming days.

If you have invited a foreign national to campus or are in the process of engaging a foreign national worker or visitor, please contact the units below to address any questions you might have.
