The Toronto District School Board and other school boards across the GTA have stated that in the event of a strike, all of its schools will be closed to all students. In the event of a strike, parents will be notified of closures through their local school boards’ communication channels.
We understand that parents and caregivers may need to make alternative childcare arrangements. Parents with children attending a childcare centre located in a school should confirm with the childcare operator if they will remain open during a strike. On-campus childcare services at the University will not be affected by any job action at TDSB.
We ask that managers & supervisors be as accommodating as operationally feasible when considering requests for schedule flexibility from employees with childcare responsibilities – including approval of personal days, lieu time, vacation days, and if applicable, shifted work schedules. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Child Care Support through Kids & Company
We would like to remind employees that the University has an agreement with Kids & Company to provide backup childcare services for children ages 6 months to 12 years. All their GTA childcare locations are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. U of T employees can purchase the backup service for $80 a day for a total of 5 days. More days may be available at an additional cost.
Should employees require alternative care for their children during a strike; they will need to call Kids & Company at 1-866-MY-KIDCO, choosing option 2 by noon today. An enrollment counsellor will be happy to assist them. This expanded service will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at many of their Ontario locations.
