Changes resulting from October 1, 2017 increase in minimum wage rates

On October 1, 2017, minimum wage rates in Ontario are increasing to comply with changes to the Employment Standards Act.

As a result, please note the following specific changes which will be implemented in HRIS and attendance systems (i.e. Kronos, Timelink) effective October 1, 2017:

  1. Non-union Casual Employees – new rate $11.60 per hour
  2. Work Study Program Students – new rate $11.60 per hour
  3. Two unionized employee groups at the University will also receive the minimum increase as follows:
    1. Bargaining Unit: UNITE HERE, Local 75
      Classification Current New Hire Rate Revised New Hire Rate
      October 1, 2017
      Banquet Server $9.90 $10.10
      Banquet Bartender $9.90 $10.10

       

    2. Bargaining Unit: CUPE, Local 3261 Casual*
      Classification Start 12 Month 24 Month
      PS Level NS S N1 01
      Hospitality Worker (Tips) Casual Current rate        $9.90
      October 1,2017  $10.10

Please be advised that the above-noted changes to the CUPE 3261 Casual wage schedule are being implemented for compliance with the Employment Standards Act and are NOT related to the recently ratified renewal collective agreement with this bargaining unit.
