Re: Possible City of Toronto Labour Disruption

As many of you know, as of 12:01 a.m. Saturday, March 24, the City of Toronto may be facing a labour disruption with its workers in CUPE Local 79. As this labour disruption would close over 50 city-run daycare centres, this will inevitably cause some difficulties for any of our employees who have children attending these centres. As a result, I am writing to ask you to be flexible and sensitive to these employees who would be required to seek alternative child care arrangements in the event of a strike.

The University’s Family Care Office (FCO) is a good source of information about alternate child care options and community resources and I encourage you to recommend that staff and faculty contact this office for assistance. The Office can be contacted by phone at 416.978.0951, by email at, or by accessing the FCO website at

Please note: the daycares located at the University of Toronto are not affected by this strike.
