Family Day

The University will be observing the new statutory holiday introduced by the provincial government, Family Day, on the third Monday in each February.

In 2008 Family Day will fall on February 18.

Eligible staff members will be given a day off work at their regular rate of pay on Family Day. Staff members who are required to work on the holiday will be paid in accordance with the provisions dealing with holidays in their collective agreement, applicable policies or employment contract.

Questions about eligibility or pay related to the new holiday should be referred to your Human Resource Generalist. Your HR Generalist will also be able to assist you in assessing any operational and staffing needs for February 18, 2008, in light of the fact that Family Day is a new – and unexpected – statutory holiday. Wherever possible classes and other academic activities should not be scheduled on this holiday. Any division planning to continue classes or academic activities is asked to contact their Divisional Registrar or the University Registrar as soon as possible.
