SES/U Job Evaluation Project Update

I am writing to update you on the job evaluation project currently underway between the University and USW.

Many of you will have already participated in the Joint Job Evaluation Questionnaire that was distributed to over 3000 USW staff and their Managers. We appreciate the time that managers took to review the questionnaires and provide their comments. Sometime in the next few months there will be one more mailout of a few hundred questionnaires to cover those employees who were not included in the first rounds.

The Questionnaire data and job descriptions are now being used by the Joint Job Evaluation Committees to group positions into job classes and rate these job classes. This process will likely take some time. As a result, we have put in place a process to continue to reasonably manage reclassification requests that arise over the coming months.

During the Questionnaire process, August 1, 2007 – January 31, 2008, all reclassification requests received by the Divisional HR Offices were held in abeyance. These backlogged requests will now be processed by the HR Offices and completed by June 30, 2008. Any resulting salary increases will be retroactive to the date on which the request was originally submitted to the HR Office.

Reclassification requests received by the Divisional HR Offices after February 1, 2008 will be held in abeyance until June 30, 2008, at which point the Divisional HR Offices will review and begin to process those reclassification requests. This process will continue at five month intervals throughout the remainder of the SES/U Job Evaluation Project.

Managers should continue to submit any reclassification requests directly to their Divisional HR Office as they arise. Please contact your Divisional HR Office should you have any questions about SES/U or the reclassification process described above.
