Further to HR Memo #2020-12 related to travel coverage under the University of Toronto’s benefit plan with Green Shield Canada (GSC), the University advises all members of the community to carefully consider any non-essential business and personal travel.
GSC has recently updated their travel benefit to include coverage for emergency medical expenses related to COVID-19 for the period of August 15, 2020 through June 30, 2021, up to the existing maximums and limitations within the plan. This coverage applies to all destinations globally – regardless of the COVID-19 travel advisory being in place or reason for travel (i.e. leisure, work, school) – and is subject to all other terms, conditions, and limitations of the benefits plan, including the requirement that you must be symptom free, in good health, and that all pre-existing conditions must be stable for 90 days prior to departure. Please read the GSC Support Centre COVID-19 FAQ carefully for more details regarding travel implications due to COVID-19.
We encourage you to visit the GSC Support Centre for more details on the steps to take before booking / undertaking travel, including the importance of consulting the travel restrictions and guidelines in place at your destination before departure. Up-to-date COVID-19 related travel advisories can be found on the Government of Canada website.
